Backups

Perform backups of remote applications weekly on Saturday as well as before and after any major changes.  Backup to a local system that is in turn backed up by a service such as CrashPlan.  After performing backups, delete the oldest set of backups (i.e. store n+2 (n+3?) backups).

Dreamhost

  • Log into Dreamhost.
  • In the panel on the left side, click on ‘Billing & Account’ and then click on ‘Backup Your Account‘.
  • Scroll down and click on the ‘Back me up!’ button.
  • When the backup is complete (as seen in the Dreamhost console as well as in an email notification), download the mail and mysql files to a system backed up by Crashplan.  (Click on the first mysql file, select ‘Save File’, click on ‘OK’, select the directory for Dreamhost backups, and click on ‘Save’.  Repeat for the other (four) mysql files.  Repeat for the mail files – unless they’re too large to be reasonably downloaded.)
  • Log out of Dreamhost.

WordPress

Hosted at Dreamhost.  Dreamhost suggests various backup plugins to automate WordPress backup.  The following backs up the WordPress content but not the WordPress databases.

  • In a browser tab, go to the site to be backed up ( auntpennie.com, prudencepennie.com, nutriate.net, travel.nutriate.com )
  • Log in
  • Hover over the site name to the left in the top menu bar and then click on ‘Dashboard’
  • Click on ‘Comments’ in the left-hand menu bar
  • If the spam count is non-zero, click on ‘Spam (#)’, browse the spam, and then click on ‘Empty Spam’
  • Hover over ‘Tools’ in the left-hand menu bar and click on ‘Export’
  • Verify that ‘All content’ is selected, click on ‘Download Export File’, ensure that ‘Save File’ is selected, click on ‘OK’ in the pop-up, ensure that the backup path is ‘…\Web Site\Backup’, and then click on ‘Save’
  • If there are plugin or theme updates (as denoted by a non-zero count to the right of a circular arrow in the top menu bar), then click on the circular arrow, click on ‘Select All’ above the items to be updated, and then click on ‘Update Plugins’ or ‘Update Themes’; repeat Update selection as necessary to complete the recommended updates
  • Once the updates have been completed, repeat the backup procedures clicking on ‘Yes’ when prompted to replace the previous backup (or click on ‘No’ and modify the file name)

Capsule

  • Open Capsule
  • Login
  • Click on the Settings icon top the far right in the top menu bar
  • Click on ‘Export’ in the left hand menu
  • Click on ‘Export to ZIP file’
  • Log out of Capsule
  • Download the backup zip file from an email sent to cnpaige@nutriate.com and prepend with ‘yyyy mm dd Capsule ‘

Shopify

  • Log into the Shopify administrative site ( https://nutriate.myshopify.com/admin/auth/login )
  • In the left hand menu, click on ‘Orders’, click on ‘Export’, select ‘All orders’, select ‘CSV for Excel, …’, and then click on ‘Export orders’.  Repeat for ‘Export transaction histories’.
  • In the left hand menu, click on ‘Products’, click on ‘Export’, select ‘All products’, select ‘CSV for Excel, …’, and then click on ‘Export products’
  • In the left hand menu, click on ‘Customers’, click on ‘Export’, select ‘All customers’, select ‘CSV for Excel, …’, and then click on ‘Export Customers’
  • Log out of Shopify
  • Download the backup files from emails sent to your nutriate.com mail id prepending with ‘yyyy mm dd

Xero

  • Log into Xero
  • Click on ‘Dashboard’
  • For each of the following click on ‘Export’, ‘Save File’, and then ‘OK’.  In the pop-up, prepend the file name with ‘yyyy mm dd‘ and click on ‘Save’.
    • Click on ‘Edit or import your Chart of Accounts’ in the upper menu strip
    • Click on the ‘Accounts’ tab, click on ‘Sales’, and after ‘Invoices’ click on ‘See all’
      • (When enabled, click on ‘Sales’ (just below the tabs at the top), scroll down, and after ‘Quotes’ click on ‘See all’)
    • Click on the ‘Accounts’ tab, click on ‘Purchases’, and after ‘Bills’ click on ‘See all’
      • (When enabled, click on ‘Purchases’ (just below the tabs at the top), scroll down, and after ‘Purchase orders’ click on ‘See all’)
    • Click on the ‘Accounts’ tab, click on ‘Inventory’, click on ‘Export’, and click on ‘CSV’
    • Click on the ‘Contacts’ tab, click on ‘All Contacts’, and click on ‘Export’
  • Log out of Xero
