Capsaicinoids, including capsaicin, are used to treat arthritis. Their efficacy in treating cancer or heart disease has yet to be definitively proven.
Heat
The heat (level of capsaicinoids) of a pepper is measured in Scoville units. (See 2016/08/16 Science Friday article for more info.) The Carolina Reaper is currently the hottest pepper.
