La Vie Beverages

Purchased a bottle of La Vie Beet Kvass Probiotic Tonic at the Alameda Webster Street Farmers’ Market 2015 March 14 for $5. We found the taste too earthy and salty; the expected slightly sweet beet notes were missing.  We did appreciate that the beverage is shelf-stable until opened.

Fermentation on the Radio

Regular consumption of fermented foods such as kimchee, kombucha, and kvass helps digestion and elimination.  Sandor Katz and other fermentation experts are featured in the To The Best of Our Knowledge Fermentation episode airing 2015 March 15.

Seeds of Change

Quinoa & Brown Rice with Garlic The form factor – a microwavable pouch with a tear-off top and an accordion bottom enabling it to stand upright – was definitely convenient.  Probably because a pouch contains two 1-cup servings, an eating utensil was not provided with the pouch.  Following the microwave cooking instructions resulted in an…

Beanfield’s Chips

The basic Unsalted flavor of Beanfield’s Bean & Rice Chips makes a great, painless substitute for corn-based tortilla chips and a reasonably healthy snack food when the crunchy munchies hit.  These baked chips are made of organic, GMO-free beans and rice with a little oil.  Probably due to the rice, the texture of these chips is…
