LesserEvil Brand Snack Co. introduces Chia Crisps
The initial four flavors are Southern Barbeque, Crunchy Dill Pickle, Jalapeno White Cheddar, and Feta and Black Olive. Though the product is billed as Chia Crisps, more accurately it is a baked bean and rice chip with a bit of chia seed. In comparison to the very similar Beanfields Bean & Rice Chips, Chia Crisps have slightly less fiber, slightly more carbohydrates and sugars, less fat (no saturated or trans fats in both cases), and more Vitamin C. Until Beanfields comes out with a BBQ-equivalent (for me, Nacho and other cheese flavors aren’t good BBQ substitutes), if the prices and availability are about the same then I’ll try the Chia Crisps – in other words I’m not going out of my way to try Chia Crisps given that I know that I like the Beanfields Sea Salt and Pico de Gallo flavors (and my SO is fond of the Nacho flavor). I am going to ask my grocer to get a bag of the Beanfields Unsalted. (Just this evening I had a handful of Sea Salt chips with salsa. The slight salt burn on my lips when I was done eating left me wondering if the chips would still be as tasty with less (or no) salt. Maybe the Unsalted will take care of my savory / crunchy cravings without the sodium.)
